About Tae Kwon-Do
"Way of Foot and Fist"
Translated from Korean, Tae means to jump,
kick or smash with the foot, Kwon means to punch, strike or
destroy with the hand and Do is art, method or way. Tae
Kwon-Do refers to a Korean fighting system which uses hands and feet
to deliver kicks, punches, strikes and blocks to defend yourself.
Tae Kwon-Do is rightly called a “martial art” because
it has actually been employed by the Korean military. Even in these
days of long range weaponry there are times when the soldier engages
in hand to hand combat and it is under these circumstances that Tae
Kwon-Do has proved itself effective.
Tae Kwon-Do is also an exciting combat sport in
which skills are tested in rigorously controlled
competitions.
Tae Kwon-Do is an excellent way to improve fitness,
flexibility and self confidence for adults and
children alike and is a superb form of self defence.
Tae Kwon-Do is safe, practical and most of all
enjoyable.
